Photographer, artist, and designer based in California.

San Francisco-based artist, Tracey Bolton, explores vulnerability and transformation through her dreamy, abstract, and energetic photographs of plants and flowers.

Though she completed coursework in fine art and photography while receiving her MFA in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design, her work as a fine artist only began in the last decade after she moved to San Francisco from Los Angeles in 2013. She started making photographs to deal with a personal trauma that resulted from miscarriage and chronic illness. She stated, “My art isn’t about this difficult time. It’s more of a meditation on managing trauma and the strength and beauty that can emerge from vulnerability.”

In her work, Bolton photographs flowers directly overhead using a macro lens, natural lighting, or sometimes a lightbox. She manipulates her subjects with her hands. Pushing, stretching, and even peeling back the layers of each flower until achieving the intended composition.
